Hornet Track Travels to North Carolina A&T and Duke

GREENSBORO and DURHAM, NC – The Lynchburg College outdoor track and field team competed Friday at the two-day North Carolina A&T State University Meet and the Duke University Invitational.

Junior Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) qualified provisionally for national competition with a 15’5 3/4" leap in the pole vault. Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) finished the 400-meters in 49.81, with Robert Jackson and Will Tolbert (Missouri City, TX/Hightower) not far behind in 50.21 and 50.39, respectively. Brandon Edwards completed the 400-meter hurdles in 59.68 and Rory-Lee Washington (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) threw 126 feet in the discus.

Sarah Funderburke (Fredericksburg, VA/Courtland) had a personal-best of 12.94 in the 100-meter dash for the Hornet women, and Danielle Garafalo (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) cleared 4’11" in the high jump.

At Duke, Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) provisionally qualified for nationals in the 5,000, finishing in 14:40.8 and Pat Jacobs ran a 15:46 in the same event. Travis Wray (Newburg, MD/La Plata) finished the 1,500 in 3:56.52 and Ashley Armistead (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) ran a 4:58 in the 1,500.

The event will conclude tomorrow.
