BRIDGEWATER, VA – The 13th-ranked Lynchburg College softball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Thursday at Bridgewater College, winning the first game 17-7 in eight innings and dropping the nightcap 12-2 in five frames. The twin bill was resumed from earlier in the season when rain forced play to be stopped in the eighth inning of the first contest.

The Hornet offense exploded for 10 runs in the eighth inning of the opener. Junior Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) was 4-6 with two runs, two RBI, a triple and a home run. Morgan Austin (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) went 4-5 with two RBI, Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) was 3-6 with three runs and three RBI and Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) and Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) each had two hits. Larissa Roscher (Centreville, VA/Westfield) worked five innings of relief for the win, allowing just two hits and one earned run.

Bridgewater plated six runs in the second and fourth innings of the second game. Cubbage had a solo home run and walked twice for LC, while Perkins was 2-2 with a walk and an RBI. Bridgewater is now 24-4 overall and 11-1 in the ODAC.

Lynchburg (24-6/10-2 ODAC) hosts Ferrum College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
