Roanoke Rallies for 17-16 OT win over Lynchburg Lacrosse

LYNCHBURG, VA – Billy Cameron scored 12 seconds into overtime to give the Roanoke College men’s lacrosse team a 17-16 come-from-behind win over third-ranked Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday.

Lynchburg led 7-6 at halftime and 14-10 entering the fourth period. The Maroons trailed 16-12 with just 50 seconds on the clock, but four RC goals in a 45-second span, the last by Steve Furdock with five seconds left, forced overtime. Cameron netted an unassisted goal to end the game after winning the face-off starting the overtime period.

Junior Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paul’s) posted six goals and two assists for Lynchburg, while Brian McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) contributed three goals and two assists. Stephen Weis (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers) had three goals and an assist, Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) had two scores and Michael Mundorf (Catonville, MD/Mt. Saint Joseph) had a goal and two assists. Austin Jeter (Coppell, TX/Episcopal) had a goal and an assist.

Zach Thomas led Roanoke (7-4/1-1 ODAC) with four scores, while Chaz Carlson tallied three goals and two assists. Jon Mason and Matt Duke each scored three times with one helper while Steve Furdock delivered two scores and one assist.

Roanoke out shot LC 59-38 overall and 21-5 in the fourth quarter and overtime. The Maroons controlled 27 of the game’s 35 face-offs, with Cameron winning 18 of his 21 draws.

Lynchburg (7-1/1-1 ODAC) travels to Guilford College Wednesday for another ODAC game at 4 p.m.
