#15 LC Softball Sweeps Randolph-Macon

LYNCHBURG, VA –The 15th-ranked Lynchburg College softball team swept Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Randolph-Macon College in both ends of a twin bill Saturday.

LC defeated the Yellow Jackets 13-1 in five innings in the opener. Senior right fielder Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) was 2-2 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored, while Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) was also 2-2 with a homer and three runs. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) was 2-3 with a two-run homer, and Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) and Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/South Regional) were each 2-3 with two RBI. Ali Manns (Weaverville, NC/North Buncombe) earned the complete-game win, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out five. Shannon Long left the yard for RMC.

The Hornets came out on top 1-0 in the nightcap. Sophomore Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) threw a four-hit shutout for the victory, allowing just one walk. Becky Clark was the tough-luck loser for the Yellow Jackets (13-6/4-6 ODAC), giving up one run, two hits with three walks. Lynchburg’s run scored in the first inning as Perkin’ sacrifice fly scored Danielle DiFranco (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian).

The Hornets (20-4/7-1 ODAC) host Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday at 1 p.m. in another ODAC double dip.
