Hornet Softball Splits DH with Emory & Henry

EMORY, VA – The Lynchburg College and Emory & Henry College softball teams split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Saturday.

The Hornets lost a heartbreaker in the opener, building a 9-3 lead after six and a half innings of the seven-inning contest. The Wasps plated seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 10-9 victory. Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) drilled a pair of home runs and drove in five Hornets, while Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) was 4-5 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) smacked a two-run home run and Danielle DiFranco (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) had two hits.

The Hornets left no room for a comeback in the nightcap, exploding for six runs in the fifth inning to defeat E&H 10-2 in five frames. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) was 2-3 with a double and three RBI, while Allsop was 2-4 with two runs and two RBI. Morgan Austin (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) was 2-2 and Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) threw a complete-game six hitter.
