For immediate release 3/20/2007 - #252 Hornet Baseball Rallies for 3-2 Win over Ferrum

LYNCHBURG, VA – Three Ferrum College errors in the ninth inning allowed the Lynchburg College baseball team to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win Tuesday evening in a game played at City Stadium.
The Hornets opened a 1-0 lead in the fourth as a David Gaines (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) single plated Ronnie Labrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River). The Panthers notched a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, one on a Jesse Fuller single and the go-ahead tally on a bases-loaded walk taken by Brett Thomas. Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) and Mark Carlson (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) each scored with one out in the ninth following a pair of Ferrum errors on the same play.
Eric O’Brien (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) and Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) each had two hits for Lynchburg. Conner Thompson (Solomons, MD/Reservoir) started and threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball, scattering seven hits while striking out five. Jonathan Nichols (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) earned the win out of the bullpen, giving up just one hit in 2.1 innings of work.
John Sain was 3-5 for Ferrum (11-10) and Fuller had two hits. Ryan Cooper threw a complete-game, giving up nine hits and just one earned run while fanning five.
Lynchburg (13-7) travels to Washington & Lee University Saturday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader at noon.
