Game 2 Box

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday with Christopher Newport University.

CNU jumped on the Hornets early in the opener, scoring seven runs in the first inning en route a 13-3 five-inning victory. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) was 2-3 for Lynchburg with a home run, while Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) also homered and walked twice. Mary Kennedy was 3-4 for the Lady Captains and Katie Moyers was 2-3 with two RBI. Lauren Pleveich and Kristin Nickloy left the yard for CNU.

Christopher Newport led 2-0 in the third inning of the second game, but a Cubbage three-run blast in the bottom half of the frame gave LC a 3-2 edge. CNU scored one in the fourth, but LC plated four more runs to put the game out of reach and held on to win 7-3. Cubbage was 2-3, Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) was 2-2 with a double and a home run and Danielle DiFranco (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) was 2-4. Marget Severin doubled three times and Becky Bond had two hits for CNU (16-6).

The Hornets (15-3) travel to Emory & Henry College Saturday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twin bill Saturday at 2 p.m.
