Hornet Softball Sweeps R-MWC

LYNCHBURG, VA –The Lynchburg College softball team swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twin bill Wednesday against visiting Randolph-Macon Woman’s College.

Lynchburg won the opener 8-0 in five innings, as senior third baseman Morgan Austin (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) was 2-2 with five RBI – including a three-run home run. Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) was 2-3. Ali Manns (Weaverville, NC/North Buncombe) went four innings to earn the win, allowing just one hit with no walks while striking out seven Wildcats.

The Hornets scored 10 first-inning runs in the nightcap and won 16-1 in five innings. Cubbage blasted a first-inning grand slam and Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/South Regional) had a two-run dinger in the second. Lauren Duguay (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) went 3-for-4, driving in three and scoring three and Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/S. Regional) was a perfect 2-for-2, including a home run. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington and Lee) pitched four strong innings, giving up an unearned run and striking out eight.

The Hornets (14-2/2-0 ODAC) host Christopher Newport University Tuesday at 3 p.m. in non-conference play.
