For immediate release – 3/10/2007 - #230 Hornet Softball Wins Two to Capture Salisbury Tournament Title
SALISBURY, MD – The Lynchburg College softball team won two games Saturday to finish the Salisbury University Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record and capture the team title.
Lynchburg defeated Allegheny University (PA) 12-3 in five innings in the first contest. Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) went 3-4 with two runs scored, and Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) was 3-4 with four RBI. Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) had two hits and scored twice and Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/South Regional) was 2-3 with a home run and four RBI. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) threw all five innings and allowed just two hits and no walks.
LC defeated Wilkes University (PA) 7-2 in the second game. Cubbage had three singles and had two RBI, while Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) was 3-3 with two RBI and two runs. Larissa Roscher (Centreville, VA/Westfield) threw a complete-game three hitter, striking out seven.
The Hornets (12-2) open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday with a 3:30 twinbill against Randolph-Macon Woman’s College.
