Homers Highlight Hornet Win Over NC Wesleyan

LYNCHBURG, VA - Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and David Gaines (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) each hit home runs Friday as the Lynchburg College baseball team topped North Carolina Wesleyan College 9-5 in a non-conference match up at Fox Field.

Grant hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning to put the Hornets on top for good, 6-4, and Gaines followed with a solo blast in the seventh. In all, eight Hornets accounted for 16 hits on the day. Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) and Eric O’Brien (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) each went 4-for-4, with Bradley scoring one run and driving in two and O’Brien driving in three.

Conner Thompson (Solomons, MD/Reservior) pitched 6.2 innings in relief of injured starter Spencer Garrett (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton), giving up only two runs while collecting the win.

The Hornets travel to Bridgewater, VA Saturday to take on Bridgewater College in a double-header, beginning at noon. The Hornets’ next home game will be Thursday, March 15 against King College at 2 p.m.
