Hornet Softball Takes Two at Va. Wesleyan Tourney

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team won both of its games Saturday afternoon on the second and final day of the Sixth Annual Atlantic vs. East Challenge, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Hornets outlasted Plattsburg State 3-2 in the opener, behind a strong pitching performance from Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee). Miles scattered six hits while striking out two for the complete-game victory. Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) was 1-2 with an RBI.

LC defeated Averett University 11-0 in five innings in the second contest. Swank went 3-3 and Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) and Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) each were 2-4. Danielle DiFranco (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) was 2-3 and Morgan Austin (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) homered, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Lynchburg (7-1) will face Salisbury University Sunday at noon in a non-conference doubleheader to be played at Virginia Wesleyan.
