Game 2 Box
Lynchburg, VA – Timely hitting and good pitching led the Lynchburg College baseball team to two seven-inning wins at Fox field over Juniata College Saturday afternoon. The Hornets bested Juniata 8-2 in the first game and took the nightcap, 2-1.
Eric O’Brien (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) and Jon Sewell (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield) each smacked two hits in the opener, with O’Brien going 2-for-3 and Sewell going 2-for-2. Both Sewell and O’Brien drove in two runs and O’Brien scored two. Dan Kauffman paced Juniata at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a home run.
In the second game, D.W. Moore (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) shut down the Juniata bats, pitching a complete game seven hitter. Moore struck out six and walked two in seven innings.
Juniata threatened to knot the score in the top of the seventh, putting two on with no outs, but the Eagles only managed one run in the frame. Juniata’s Andrew Kriss popped out to first with the tying run on third to end the game. Jeff Lincoln (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) belted a solo home-run in the third to put the Hornets up for good.
The Hornets (6-2) and Juniata (0-2) were scheduled to compete in a single game on Sunday, but it has been cancelled due to possible inclement weather
