Randolph-Macon Outlasts LC Women 70-59 in ODAC Tourney

SALEM, VA – Despite game-highs of 26 points and 17 rebounds from Hornet senior center Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame), top-seeded Randolph-Macon College defeated Lynchburg College 70-59 in the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament Friday afternoon.

Randolph-Macon led 32-22 at the break and opened a 12-point advantage early in the half. The Yellow Jackets were ahead 53-43 with 8:15 left in the game, but LC chipped away to trail just 55-50 with 3:43 left. R-MC answered with six-straight points to put the game out of reach.

Wesley hit 10 of 13 shots from the field in her last collegiate contest, and sank six of eight from the charity stripe. Freshman Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) had 15 points, seven assists, four steals and three rebounds while Brittany Dahn (Glenn Allen, VA/Deep Run) posted 10 points and six caroms. The Hornets out rebounded their opponents 49-39.

Salem Shaffer scored 22 points and snared eight rebounds for Randolph-Macon (22-4). Lindsay Reisbeck had 15 points and five boards and Amanda Hiltunen had 13 points and four assists and five steals. Kristen Morgan tallied 10 points and six assists. The Yellow Jackets held LC to just 34 percent shooting from the floor (24-70) and eight percent from (1-13) three-point land.

The Hornets end the 2006-07 season at 7-19 overall.
