LC Baseball Falls at NC Wesleyan 9-3

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Lynchburg College baseball team fell behind early and couldn’t recover Wednesday – losing 9-3 at North Carolina Wesleyan College in a non-conference game.

The Bishops led 5-0 and put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) got LC on the board with a two-run triple in the seventh, and scored himself on a double from Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage).

Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and Jonathan Sewell (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield) each had two hits for Lynchburg. Evan Durrer (Charlottesville, VA/Charlottesville) and Conner Thompson (Solomons, MD/Reservoir) combined to throw 3.1 innings of perfect relief.

Matt Smith was 3-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Bishops (8-3), who got a solid pitching performance from starter Jonathan Lucas. Lucas tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out five. Nathan West was also 3-4.

The Hornets (4-2) host Juniata College (PA) Saturday in a non-conference twin-bill at noon.
