For immediate release – 2/17/2007 - #196 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Virginia Wesleyan College, the second-ranked men’s basketball team in NCAA Division III, broke open a close game midway in the second half and went on the defeat Lynchburg College 90-73 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The Marlins used a 14-5 run at the end of the first half to take a 38-29 advantage into intermission. In the second half, VWC used two separate 7-0 runs to grab a 58-44 lead with 11:26 on the game clock - and led by double figures the rest of the way. Lynchburg sophomore Jack Burgess (Durham, NC/Cardinal Gibbons) scored a team-high 20 points in just 23 minutes, hitting eight of his 10 field-goal attempts. Junior Evan Fancourt (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) netted 18 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds while backcourt mates Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) and Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) each had eight points. Brandon Adair scored a game-high 22 points for Virginia Wesleyan (22-3/17-1 ODAC), and added nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. Terrell Dixon posted 13 points, TonTon Balenga scored 12 and Rodney Young had 10. Lynchburg ends the 2006-07 with a 6-19 overall record, including a 3-15 mark in the ODAC. ### |
