Hampden-Sydney Defeats LC 80-68

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Hampden-Sydney College men’s basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 80-68 Wednesday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.

The Tigers opened the game with an 11-3 run and quickly opened up a 10-point advantage. H-SC led by double figures at 11:31 left in the first half and held a double-figure advantage the rest of the game.

Hornet senior center Peter Vasiliou (Chincoteague, VA/Chincoteague) tied for game highs with 19 points and eight rebounds, his last contest in Turner Gymnasium. Jack Burgess (Durham, NC/Cardinal Gibbons) drilled four second-half three pointers for 12 points, and Evan Fancourt (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) added 11 points. Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) posted seven rebounds, five assists and four points.

Mike Edwards paced Hampden-Sydney (14-10/9-8 ODAC) with 19 points and five assists. Tyler Murray had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Drew Prehmus tallied 12 points and eight rebounds. The Tigers shot 47.6 percent from the floor (30-63), while the Hornets hit 39.3 percent (24-61) of their attempts.

The Hornets (6-18/3-14 ODAC) conclude their 2006-07 season Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan College at 3 p.m.
