Lynchburg College will sign a guaranteed admission agreement with the Virginia Community College System on February 28 that will make it easier for students with two-year degrees to transfer to LC.

Glenn DuBois, chancellor of VCCS, and LC President Kenneth Garren will ink the deal in a brief ceremony at 11 a.m. in Centennial Hall on the LC campus. Members of the media will be able to ask questions afterwards and talk to transfer students.

Presidents from seven community colleges — Central Virginia, Dabney Lancaster, Southside, Danville, Virginia Western, Piedmont, and Blue Ridge — are also expected to attend.

"Establishing this articulation agreement between the Virginia Community College system and Lynchburg College creates a new partnership that will better serve the academic needs of Virginia students," LC President Kenneth Garren said. "Lynchburg College is currently the largest private college educator of Virginia students in the commonwealth, and this new agreement is expected to further increase the number of Virginia students enrolling at Lynchburg."

Enrollment continues to rise in the VCCS, thanks in large part to transfer agreements with four-year institutions.

Under the guaranteed admission agreement, students with associate degrees in Arts, Science, or Arts and Science who have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher are eligible for the guaranteed transfer of up to 76 credit hours. Such degrees will fulfill LC’s general education requirement except for three semester hours of a foreign language and a two-semester-hour senior symposium course.

The primary benefit to Virginia Community College students is that they will be able to immediately focus on their major program courses and perhaps be able to pursue a minor or second major. Other benefits include the waiver of LC’s $30 application fee, automatic consideration for academic scholarships, and a list of contacts to help students with academic advice.
