Mary Baldwin Defeats LC Women 81-75 on Senior Day

LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior guard Jessica Carter scored a game-high 34 points as the Mary Baldwin College women’s basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 81-75 in non-conference play Sunday.

Lynchburg led 38-35 at the break, but the Fighting Squirrels took an 11-point lead after outscoring LC 26-12 in the first 11 minutes of the second half.

Senior center Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) tallied 15 points, 13 rebounds and four assists and senior forward Jessie Bridge (Stuarts Draft, VA/Stuarts Draft) had six points and seven rebounds in their last contests in Turner Gymnasium. Freshman Dana Esposito (New Port Richie, FL/Holy Names) scored a game-high 16 points for Lynchburg, hitting all four of her three-point tries and assisting on seven baskets. Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) and Amy Terry (Dublin, VA/Pulaski) had 11 points each and Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) had 10 points.

Carter hit 14 of her 22 shots from the field and five of nine three-point attempts. Kara Hawkins netted 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for MBC (8-13) and Jennifer Dobson had 14 points and four steals. Christie Hamilton posted 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Hornets (6-16) travel across Lynchburg to face Randolph-Macon Woman’s College Wednesday at 7 p.m.
