Hornet Baseball Opens 2007 Season With Split at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC – The Lynchburg College baseball team split its 2007 season-opening doubleheader at Greensboro College Saturday, dropping the first game 6-4 and taking the second 6-1 – both seven-inning contests.

Lynchburg scored two runs in the third and two more in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead in the opener. The Pride scored four times in the bottom of the sixth, once on a walk, once on a passed ball, and the last two on single from Taylor Kennedy. Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) went 2-3 for LC, while three Hornet runs scored on Greensboro errors. Kennedy was 3-4 for GC.

Hornet sophomore Jon Nichols (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) threw a gem in the nightcap, scattering six hits while striking out six in six innings of work. Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, David Gaines (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) was 2-4 with three RBI and Crews again went 2-3. Kent Gilliland took the loss for Greensboro (5-3).

The two teams square off Sunday in one nine-inning contest at 1 p.m.
