Roanoke Prevails 69-56 over LC Men

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore center Curtis Peery scored 12 straight points for the Roanoke College men’s basketball team during a crucial second-half stretch to key a 69-56 Maroon win over Lynchburg College Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.

The Maroons led 32-23 at the half and extended the lead to 47-32 with 12:15 left on the game clock. The Hornets fought almost the whole way back, using a 22-8 run to climb to within one point at 55-54 with 4:20 remaining. But Peery scored a traditional three-point play and two other baskets to provide the Maroons with an eight-point cushion, and RC held on for the win.

Junior guard Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) finished with a team-high 20 points, and added five rebounds and three steals. Drew Norris (Richmond, VA/Steward School) had 10 points while Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle), Peter Vasiliou (Chincoteague, VA/Chincoteague) and Danny Reed (Adamstown, MD/Tuscarora) each scored five points.

Perry finished with a game-high 24 points for Roanoke (12-10/8-7 ODAC), hitting 10 of his 13 shots from the floor. Josh LaPorte posted 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, and Ben Shrader scored 11 points. The Maroons shot 51 percent for the game (26-51) while LC hit on 37 percent of its field-goal attempts (22-59).

The Hornets (6-16/3-12 ODAC) travel to Washington & Lee University Sunday for another conference game at 4:30 p.m.
