LYNCHBURG, VA – Virginia Wesleyan College broke open a close game in the second half and defeated Lynchburg College 63-45 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women’s basketball contest Tuesday evening.

Lynchburg led 20-12 after 10 minutes of play, but VWC rallied to forge a 30-28 lead at intermission. The Hornets trailed just 38-33 with 16:32 left in the game, but the Marlin defense held LC scoreless over the next 11 minutes to take control of the game.

Freshman guard Chevonne Booker (Richmond, VA/Thomas Jefferson) scored a team-high 13 points for Lynchburg, and Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) had 12 points and eight rebounds. Tamara Snead (Richmond, VA/Henrico) posted 11 points, a game-high nine rebounds and four steals and Loriann Garcia tallied nine points and eight rebounds.

Taylor Lowe scored a game-high 17 points for Virginia Wesleyan (18-4/15-2 ODAC). Nicole Thurston had 13 points and six rebounds and Heather Phillips ended with 10 points. Va. Wesleyan forced 29 turnovers and held Lynchburg to just 25 percent shooting from the field (12-48).

The Hornets (5-15/5-11 ODAC) travel to Hollins University Saturday for another ODAC game at 3 p.m.
