Michael D. Schnur was recently named the 2006 recipient of the Sydnor Professorship Award for Teaching Excellence in Business.

The annual award is supported by the C. Raine Sydnor Sr. Endowment in the School of Business and Economics, which was established by numerous friends and family members to recognize master teachers who make a difference in business education.

A former police officer, Schnur began his college teaching career in 1987 in New York and continued in this career at Lynchburg College in 1994. He is currently the faculty advisor to the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, Economics/Investment Club, and the 2005 National Collegiate Club Lacrosse Team at Lynchburg College. Schnur serves as a member of the College Retention Committee. He lives in Charlottesville and is married with two children.

Schnur began his doctoral coursework in economics at Fordham University (New York) from 1990-1993, with concentrations in domestic financial policy and monetary theory. He earned his MBA at C.W. Post College (New York) in 1986. He received his BS in Management at Adelphi University (New York).

Prior to entering academia, Schnur was a member of the Nassau County Police Department in New York from 1973-1993 and retired as a bureau commanding officer. Following his initial street patrol duties, he completed assignments in the detective division and as a police academy instructor. Following his assignment to the DEA Federal Task Force in New York City he was certified as a financial investigator. Schnur received his series 7 and series 63 licenses and was a stockbroker for Vanderbilt Securities in New York.
