Lynchburg College’s Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) was named a first-team NCAA Division III Softball All-American Friday, capping an impressive spring of honors for the junior right fielder.
Cubbage, the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year, and a first-team selection on the All-Atlantic Region team, hit a school-record 17 home runs with a .489 batting average. She posted on-base and slugging averages of .579 and 1.000 respectively, and had 57 RBI and 59 runs scored. Cubbage is the first player in program history to take home first-team All-American honors, and earned second-team All-American accolades in 2004.
Senior catcher/designated player Brittany Edelen (Aquasco, MD/St. Mary’s Ryken) earned a spot on the third team this year. She recently was named to the All-Atlantic Region and All-ODAC first-team squads and hit .364 for the season with 11 doubles, six home runs, 37 runs scored and 44 RBI.
Lynchburg finished 30-15 overall and placed second in the conference championship tournament.
