Dr. Priscilla J. Gannicott, associate professor of chemistry at Lynchburg College, has received the 2006 Award for Academic Advising. The award recognizes advisors who maintain and exceed standards of outstanding advising.

Dr. Gannicott joined the Lynchburg College faculty in 1994 and has served as chair of the chemistry program since 2001.

As a chemist and an environmentalist, Dr. Gannicott has presented and published work in numerous venues, received several research grants for a variety of projects pertaining to environmental issues, has been involved in a number of faculty-student collaborative research projects, and has presented workshops and courses in continuing education.

She is currently co-director of a long term water quality and sediment characterization study of College Lake, supported by the Virginia Environmental Endowment Foundation. She and her students have established community partnerships with organizations such as Lynchburg Grows and the Pedlar River Institute for chemical analysis purposes.

Dr. Gannicott earned her A.B. degree from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee.
