Dr. White joined the faculty of Lynchburg College in 1966, teaching both French and piano. The recipient of three Fulbright grants and a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, Dr. White speaks three languages and holds four advanced degrees beyond his bachelors from Rollins College. He earned a degree in contemporary French literature from the Sorbonne, a doctorate in French language and literature from the University of Colorado, and two masters-level degrees in music, Licence d'Enseignement de Piano, and Diplôme Supérieur d'Exécution de Musique de Chambre from Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. He has also studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City and has taken classes in the Judaic Studies Program at Skidmore College.
During his 40 years at Lynchburg College, Dr. White has taught in the Westover Honors Program and in the Senior Symposium program. He has served as Chapter Advisor for Phi Delta Theta fraternity since its inception in 1994 and was a major influence in establishing the Greek System on the LC campus. He serves on the board of directors of the local chapter of the Alliance Francaise, an organization that promotes French Culture all over the world, and is a member of Phi Sigma Iota, the foreign language honor society.
A member of the governing board of Agudath Sholom Congregation, Dr. White has been a member of the Judaic Studies Steering Committee since its creation in 1999. He has taught courses on a volunteer basis at a local prison for a number of years.
A concert pianist, Dr. White has presented recitals with other music faculty members for a number of years, the most recent a Mozart concert in January, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the birth of the composer.
