The Sexual Assault Response Program will host the 15th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Lynchburg College’s Snidow Chapel. The event is co-sponsored by the YWCA Domestic Violence Prevention Center and Lynchburg College’s chapter of Alpha Chi Omega.

The event is in recognition of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The keynote speaker will be Lynchburg Police officer Beth Bunch, who was recently awarded the “Above and Beyond Award” from the Coalition Against Domestic Violence for the 24th Judicial District Inc.

Between January 2005 and August 2006, Bunch responded to 94 calls for police service related to domestic issues. She has made 46 arrests for domestic violence, abduction or violations of protective orders.

In addition to day-to-day intervention in domestic violence situations, Bunch provides training to other officers on domestic violence, legal updates on domestic violence laws and the review of police policy related to domestic violence. She is also a training officer for new recruits.
