For immediate release - 1/30/2007 - #174 LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph-Macon College women’s basketball team scored 23 of the game’s final 29 points to defeat Lynchburg College 62-44 Tuesday 62-44 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The Hornets led 15-4 with 11:40 left in the first half, but the offense went cold. Randolph-Macon took advantage and grabbed a five-point lead following a 17-1 run, fueled by three straight three-pointers from Kristen Morgan. Lynchburg ended the half with a 9-2 surge to take a 25-23 edge into intermission. The Yellow Jackets held a one-point lead with 8:22 left on the game clock and pulled away with a 13-1 run. R-MC sealed the contest from the free-throw line, scoring its last eight points from the charity stripe. Senior Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) posted a game-high 17 points with 10 rebounds for LC, while Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) tallied 11 points, seven caroms and four assists. Tamara Snead (Richmond, VA/Henrico) had six points and 11 rebounds in just 11 minutes of play. The Hornets enjoyed a 55-34 edge in rebounding, including a 24-5 advantage on the offensive glass. Morgan had a team-high 14 points for Randolph-Macon (15-3/12-2 ODAC), and Amanda Hiltunen tallied 13 points and six assists. Lindsey Riesbeck finished with 10 points before fouling out. The Yellow Jackets defense held Lynchburg to just 24.2 percent shooting (15-62). The Hornets (5-14/5-10 ODAC) host Virginia Wesleyan College Tuesday at 7 p.m. ### |
