For immediate release – 1/27/2007 – #172 HARRISONBURG, VA – The Eastern Mennonite University men’s basketball team rallied from a 10-point second half deficit to defeat Lynchburg College 87-83 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday evening. The Hornets shot 72 percent (18-25) from the field in the first half and led 41-34 at intermission. Senior Jason Early (Radnor, PA/Radnor) scored on a traditional three-point play with 17 minutes left in the game to give LC a 50-40 lead before the tide turned. The Royals used a 12-3 run over the next three minutes to trim the edge to just one point, and took the lead for good midway through the half with a 10-1 surge. Lynchburg cut the advantage to three late in the contest, but EMU sealed the game from the free-throw line. Freshman guard Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) scored a game-high 18 points, sinking six of his seven field-goal attempts. Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) and Danny Reed (Adamstown, MD/Tuscarora) each had 12 points and Drew Norris (Richmond, VA/Steward School) added 11. Evan Fancourt (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) finished with 10 points and a team-high five rebounds. Brad Parkes scored 17 points and grabbed eight boards for Eastern Mennonite (6-11/2-9 ODAC). Jason Sager posted 16 points and nine rebounds while Austin Twine also had 16 points. The Hornets (6-12/3-8 ODAC) travel to Bridgewater College for another ODAC game Sunday at 3 p.m. ### |
