LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College indoor track and field team competed Saturday at the Liberty University On Track Open.
Junior Chris Irby (South Boston, VA/Halifax County) paced LC with a 2:00.07 in the 800 meters, while Ryan Holmes (Glen Allen, VA/J.R. Tucker) won the triple jump (46-04.75) and was fifth in the long jump (21-06.25). Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) was second in the pole vault (15-03) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Brandon Edwards, Will Tolbert (Missouri City, TX/Hightower), Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) and Earl Graves (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) finished in 3:26.82. Graves also ran a 50.88 in the 400-meter dash.
Sarah Funderburke (Fredericksburg, VA/Courtland) took second in the women’s 400-meter dash in 1:00.02 and Danielle Garofalo (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) placed fifth in the women’s triple jump (33-08.75). Mary Mohay (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) was fourth in the pole vault (9-06.25) and Heather Shaw (Alpine, NJ/Tenafly) was fifth (9-00.25). Amanda Diver (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) ran a 1:04.79 in the 400-meter dash.
The Hornets travel to the University of North Carolina next weekend.
