For immediate release – 1/27/2007 - #170 EMU Upends LC 65-48 in Women’s Basketball

HARRISONBURG, VA – The Eastern Mennonite University women’s basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game Saturday and never looked back in a 65-48 win over Lynchburg College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The Royals surged ahead 28-7 after 12 minutes of play and led 34-17 at halftime. The Hornets couldn’t get closer than 13 points in the second half.
Freshman Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) scored a team-high 15 points and added four steals for Lynchburg. Amy Terry (Dublin, VA/Pulaski County) sank all eight of her free-throw attempts and finished with 12 points while Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) had nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Carolyn Riley and Tara Jones paced Eastern Mennonite (12-5/10-3 ODAC) with 19 and 178 points, respectively. The Royal defense forced LC into 27 percent shooting (15-56) and 32 turnovers.
The Hornets (5-13/5-9 ODAC) host Randolph-Macon (Ashland, VA) Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
