For immediate release – 1/26/2007 - #169 BRIDGEWATER, VA - Senior Katy Herr Lovell posted 22 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals Friday evening to lead Bridgewater College to a 74-66 win over Lynchburg College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest. The Eagles led 32-30 at halftime, and were ahead by just four (56-52) with 5:44 left on the game clock. The Eagles took a 10-point edge after six-straight points and held at least a seven-point advantage the rest of the game. Hornet senior center Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds, playing 39 minutes. Freshman Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) scored a team-best 16 points and added four rebounds and four steals, and Dana Esposito (New Port Richie, FL/Holy Names) had 12 points before fouling out. Amy Terry (Dublin, VA/Pulaski County) also scored 12 points. Lynchburg enjoyed a 42-33 edge on the backboards and snared 23 offensive rebounds. Rebecca Henderson had 18 points and five blocks for Bridgewater (13-4/10-3 ODAC). Shannon Scales tallied 15 points and five rebounds while Amy Childs had 10 points and four steals. The Eagles shot 50 percent from the floor (24-48) to Lynchburg’s 36.5 percent (27-74). BC also took advantage from the free-throw line, hitting 24 of 29 foul shots (82.8%) compared to just eight of 12 for the Hornets (66.7%). The Hornets (5-12/5-8 ODAC) travel to Eastern Mennonite University Saturday for another conference game at 4 p.m. ### |
