For immediate release – 1/21/2007 - #165 LYNCHBURG, VA – Greg Bienemann tied a career-high with 33 points Saturday as the Washington & Lee University men’s basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 84-67 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The General took a 4-3 lead at the 17:47 mark and never trailed the rest of the game. W&L led 42-31 at the break, and the closest the Hornets got in the second half was eight with 13:59 left. Freshman guard Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) scored a team-high 22 points for Lynchburg – the only Hornet in double figures. Evan Fancourt (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) netted eight points, while Peter Vasiliou (Chincoteague, VA/Chincoteague) and Drew Norris (Richmond, VA/Steward School) each had seven points. Bienemann sank 12 of his 20 shots from the floor and eight of nine free throws for the Generals (9-5/4-4 ODAC). Kirk Jones and Alex White each added 10 points. Chris Halkitis had seven points, seven rebounds and seven assists. W&L out rebounded LC 43-27 and shot 56 percent from the floor (28-50). The Hornets (6-1/3-6 ODAC) host Emory & Henry College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in another conference match-up. ### |
