HSC Defeats LC Men 90-63

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Tyler Murray scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Wednesday as the Hampden-Sydney College men’s basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 90-63 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.

The Tigers started quickly - opening a 26-9 advantage in the first eight minutes of play behind six three-point baskets. The Hornets trimmed the lead to nine, but Hampden-Sydney extended the edge back to 45-32 at the break. Lynchburg got within nine points three separate times in the second half, but could get no closer, and the Tigers ended the game with a 15-4 run.

Freshman guard Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) scored a team-high 18 points for Lynchburg, hitting four of his six attempts from three-point range. Drew Norris (Richmond, VA/Steward School) netted 16 points, 13 in the second half. Peter Vasiliou (Chincoteague, VA/Chincoteague) had seven points and Sean Sutherland (Alexandria, VA/Commonwealth) scored six.

Murray needed just eight shot attempts (7-8) to score his 18 points for Hampden-Sydney (9-5/4-3 ODAC). Turner King also had 17 points and Matt Green added 11. The Tigers out rebounded LC 46-26, and shot 51 percent from the floor (31-61) while holding Lynchburg to 39 percent (23-59) shooting.

The Hornets travel to Roanoke College Saturday for another ODAC match-up at 2 p.m.
