VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Virginia Wesleyan College women’s basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 69-44 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game Tuesday evening.
The Marlins held a 36-20 edge at halftime and led the entire second half by at least 15 points.
Senior center Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Lynchburg. Freshman Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) had eight points and seven rebounds, freshman Tamara Snead (Richmond, VA/Henrico) posted eight points, five boards and three steals while freshman Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) tallied seven points and seven caroms. The Hornets held a 50-38 advantage on the glass.
Nichole Thurston scored a team-high 11 points for VWC (12-3/9-1 ODAC), and Michelle Dove and Chelsey Barrett each scored nine points. The Marlin defense forced Lynchburg into 29 percent shooting (14-49) and 30 turnovers.
Lynchburg (2-11/2-7) travels to Greensboro, NC to square off with Guilford College Saturday at 4 p.m. in another conference game.
