Roanoke Hangs on for 74-71 Win over LC Women

LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior forward Erin Hanson scored a game-high 30 points Saturday to give the Roanoke College women’s basketball team a 74-71 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Lynchburg College.

The contest was tied 41-41 at halftime. The Hornets used a 12-0 run, behind four points each from Tamara Snead (Richmond, VA/Henrico) and Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run), to open a 56-50 lead with 10 minutes left. The Maroons then went on a 15-4 spurt over the next five minutes to open a 65-60 lead and led the rest of the game. LC pulled to within one with eight seconds left, but a lay-up from Jeleesa Osborne sealed the victory for Roanoke.

Senior center Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) netted team highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds on nine of 16 shooting for LC. Dahn scored 18 points and grabbed seven boards and Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) had 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Lynchburg out rebounded the Maroons 44-28.

Hanson made 12 of her 18 field-goal attempts for Roanoke (7-6/5-4 ODAC). Osborne scored 14 points, while Cindy McGraw tallied 10 points and eight assists. RC shot 50 percent 30-60) from the floor for the game.

Lynchburg (2-10/2-6 ODAC) travels to Virginia Wesleyan College for another ODAC match-up Tuesday.
