W&L Women Outlast LC 76-68 in OT

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Washington & Lee University women’s basketball team outlasted Lynchburg College 76-68 in overtime Friday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

Lynchburg led 28-26 at the half and had a lead of eight early in the second half at 40-32. The Generals outscored LC 18-2 over the next five minutes to take a 50-42 edge and held a small advantage on the scoreboard until the closing seconds of regulation. Down 62-59 with 10 seconds left, Hornet senior Rachel Leake (Haymarket, VA/Brentsville District) drilled a three-pointer to knot the score. Washington & Lee couldn’t convert on a lay-up at the buzzer and the game entered overtime. Bethany Ridenhour scored seven points in overtime for the Generals to seal the game.

Senior center Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) posted game-highs with 25 points and 16 rebounds, hitting all 11 of her attempts from the free-throw line. Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) and Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) each scored 10. Leake, at 5-1, was the team’s second-leading rebounder with six, and added five steals and four assists.

Kristen Krouchick posted 20 points and 13 rebounds for W&L (4-7/2-6 ODAC). Ridenhour had 20 points, Emily Wolff had 13 points while Jessica Hunsinger added 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots.

Lynchburg (2-9/2-5 ODAC) will host Roanoke College Saturday at 3 p.m.
