For immediate release – 1/7/2007 - #152 Hornet Men Win Fourth-Straight, 66-60 over Bridgewater LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men’s basketball team won its fourth-straight game Sunday, a 66-60 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over visiting Bridgewater College. LC led 33-25 at the half, and was ahead 54-51 with four minutes to play. Junior guard Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) drilled a three-pointer and Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) found Peter Vasiliou (Chincoteague, VA/Chincoteague) underneath the hoop for a lay-up on the next possession to put the Hornets up eight. The Eagles trimmed the edge to 62-60 with 15 seconds left, but Drew Norris (Richmond, VA/Steward School) iced the game with four-straight free throws in the closing seconds. Echols tied for the game-high with 15 points for Lynchburg and Norris scored 13 points, eight from the charity stripe. Safo had 11 points and Evan Fancourt (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) added nine points, five rebounds and four assists. Jay Strotman scored 15 points for Bridgewater (4-6/1-3 ODAC). Dominic Trawick scored 13 and Josh Fox posted 10 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. Each team committed 19 turnovers, and Lynchburg held a 38-31 edge in rebounding. The Hornets (6-6/3-2 ODAC) host Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in another league game.
