The 19 points gives Wesley 1,010 for her career, making her just the sixth woman in LC basketball history to pass 1,000. Needing nine points to reach 1,000 coming into the contest, Wesley had eight just seconds before halftime. The 6-2 center corralled a rebound and hit the follow-up with 1.7 seconds remaining in the half. EMU led 40-24 at intermission and held a double-figure advantage the entire second half. Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) finished with 10 points and four assists and Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) tallied eight points and four rebounds. The Royals (5-3/2-2 ODAC) held Lynchburg to just 33 percent (20-60) shooting from the floor. Carolyn Riley scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Ebony Dennis had 14 points, five steals and four assists and Tara Jones had 13 points. Wesley ranks sixth on the Hornet all-time scoring leader board, just six points behind current LC softball coach Dawn Gibson Simmons ’97 and 12 points behind Kerry Womack ’92. "It felt great, I've been working at it for a couple games and I finally got it," said Wesley about reaching 1,000 points. "I'm really thankful to my coaches for working with me in and outside of practice, and I couldn't have done it without my teammates because if they don't pass me the ball I can't score." The Hornets (2-6/2-2) face Bridgewater College Saturday at 4 p.m., following the men’s contest against Eastern Mennonite at 1 p.m. ### |
