For immediate release – 12/30/2006 – #147 MARIETTA, OHIO – Senior center Peter Vasiliou (Chincoteague, VA/Chincoteague) delivered game-highs of 24 points and nine rebounds Saturday afternoon as the Lynchburg College men’s basketball team defeated Olivet College (MI) 80-76 in the consolation game of the 36th Annual Shrine Tournament – hosted by Marietta College. Lynchburg led 34-33 at halftime, and the lead changed hands several times in the second half. LC took a 71-67 edge with three minutes remaining on a Danny Reed (Adamstown, MD/Tuscarora) jumper - and the Hornets sealed the win by scoring their last nine points from the charity stripe. Vasiliou hit nine of his 14 shots from the floor and all six of his free throws. Reed and Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) each had 13 points and Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) added 11 points and four assists. Andy Sierminski hit four three-pointers en route to a team-high 21 points for Olivet (2-8). The Hornets (3-6) host Southern Virginia University Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Turner Gymnasium. ### |
