WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Carthage College (WI) women’s basketball team scored the first 22 points of the contest en route to a 74-42 win over Lynchburg College in the first day of play at the Smokey Ballenger Classic, hosted by Otterbein College.

The Lady Reds scored 22 unanswered points in the game’s first eight minutes of play before the Hornets hit a pair of free throws to get on the scoreboard. LC netted the half’s last eight points to enter halftime with a 41-23 deficit. Carthage opened a 23-point edge early in the second half and never looked back.

Freshman Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) scored 10 points for Lynchburg and added six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) had 10 points, six caroms and five steals and Tamara Snead (Richmond, VA/Henrico) posted five points and six boards.

Shana Lieberman scored 16 points and Erika Buchholz and Katie Jarger each had 11 for the Lady Reds (6-3). Carthage held LC to just 24 percent shooting (14-58) from the floor and nine percent (1-11) from three-point range.

The Hornets (2-4) will face Carnegie Mellon University (PA) Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game.
