
Helen SmithHelen Smith completed her first season as the Lynchburg College men’s and women’s tennis coach, returning to her alma mater.
Smith serves currently as the director of tennis at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, teaching junior and adult private lessons and conducting clinics for up to 30 students. She also directs junior and adult tournaments. Smith was the head girls’ tennis coach for Heritage High School in 2005 and works as a volleyball referee/umpire in the Colonial Officials Association and through the Lynchburg City Parks and Recreation Department.
Smith graduated from Lynchburg in 1980 with a degree in accounting after playing for four seasons on the Hornet tennis squad, two as captain.
New assistant Jason Page was born in Lynchburg and attended high school at LCA where he played tennis for two years. He earned his undergraduate degree in sport management from Liberty University in 2001 and teaches business education in the technical education department at Heritage High School.
Page has been coaching high school tennis for eight years (3 years JV boys and 5 years varsity boys). He passed his USPTA Certification Exam at the Professional 1 level - the highest level possible. He also participates in USTA League Tennis and local tennis ladders.
Several of his high school players have moved on to play tennis at the college level. In addition to coaching high school, he has also worked part-time during the summer at Wintergreen Resort giving private lessons, group lessons, adult clinics, junior clinics, and assisting with academies.
