CNU’s Ashley Traylor Tops All-State College Division Field Hockey Team
Weir Tabbed Rookie of the Year – Moura Coach of the Year

LYNCHBURG, VA – Christopher Newport University’s Ashley Traylor earned the 2006 Player of the Year Award as the Virginia State Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division Field Hockey Team was announced Thursday. CNU’s Carrie Moura was named the state’s Coach of the Year and Lynchburg College’s Allie Weir earned the Rookie of the Year award.

Traylor, a junior attack, earned second-team All-American and first-team All-South Region honors this fall. She scored 20 goals (four game-winners), and added six assists for a Lady Captain squad that advanced into the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight. Moura led CNU to a program-best 14-4 record and it’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. Christopher Newport defeated three-time defending Division III Champion Salisbury University in the round of 16.

Weir, an attack, was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year after scoring 29 goals with seven assists. She led the conference in goals and points and ranked second in goals and fourth in points in Division III.

Christopher Newport and Lynchburg each placed four student-athletes on the first-team, while Randolph-Macon College, Washington & Lee University and Virginia Wesleyan College each had one first-team member.
