Given for the first time in 2002, and renamed in 2007 to honor the dedication and student focus of beloved English professor, Thomas C. Allen, the Academic Advising Award is given annually to honor a faculty or staff colleague for excellence in advising practices. Any full-time member of the Lynchburg College faculty or staff who has not received the award within the last five years is eligible.

Nominations are invited from currently enrolled students, faculty members, or administrative staff members at Lynchburg College. Nominations should describe the advising activities of the faculty or staff member and clearly indicate why the nominee deserves this award. Please address the criteria for Outstanding Advising (below) that are appropriate to your experience. Feel free to share stories about your nominee's commitment to student advising, influence on your personal educational experience, and/or effect on advising practices at LC. All nominations should be signed by the nominator and are confidential.

Make certain that the length of your nomination is at least one or more paragraphs long, so the committee who chooses the recipient has a clear idea of why your nominee demonstrates excellence in advising. The Academic Advising Award committee, composed of the last three recipients of the award, two members of the academic administration who work closely with advisors, and one student appointed by the Dean of Student's Office, selects a recipient after evaluating all nominations essays that have been submitted. The award recipient is announced at Academic Awards Banquet in April.

Send your nomination by e-mail to Dr. David Perault, chair of the selection committee, at the following address: advisingaward@lynchburg.edu.

The deadline for submission is the Friday before spring break. Nominations for this year's award should reach the chair of the committee by Friday, February 26, 2010.
