Helen Smith Announced as New LC Head Tennis Coach

LYNCHBURG, VA – Helen Smith was named the Lynchburg College head men’s and women’s tennis coach Tuesday, returning to her alma mater.

Smith serves currently as the director of tennis at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, teaching junior and adult private lessons and conducting clinics for up to 30 students. She also directs junior and adult tournaments. Smith was the head girls’ tennis coach for Heritage High School in 2005 and works as a volleyball referee/umpire in the Colonial Officials Association and through the Lynchburg City Parks and Recreation Department.

"We are pleased to add somebody with Helen’s experience and familiarity with the program to our athletic department," said Lynchburg College director of athletics Dr. Jack Toms. "She is excited about the opportunity to direct the Lynchburg tennis teams."

Smith graduated from Lynchburg in 1980 with a degree in accounting after playing for four seasons on the Hornet tennis squad, two as captain.
