NJCU Defeats LC Women 71-59

NEW JERSEY CITY, NJ – Despite 18 points and 14 rebounds from senior center Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame), the Lynchburg College women’s basketball team lost 71-59 to New Jersey City University in the first day of the Gothic Knight Tip-Off Tournament.

Freshman Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) scored a game-high 17 points for LC. Freshman Brittany Dahn (Glenn Allen, VA/Deep Run) added 10 points and five rebounds while freshman Dana Esposito (New Port Richie, FL/Holy Names) posted seven points and seven rebounds. The Hornets shot just two of 20 from three-point range (10%) in their season opener.

Tiffany Boyd had 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for NJCU, and Latrese McNair added 15 points and six steals.

Lynchburg (0-1) will play Baruch College (NY) Sunday at 1 p.m. in the tournament’s consolation game.
