For immediate release – 11/15/2006 - #120 Hornets Take Four First-Team Spots on ODAC FH Team Allie Weir Named Rookie of the Year; Enza Steele Coach of the Year
SALEM, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team boasted four first-team selections as well as the Rookie and Coach of the Year Awards as the 2006 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) team was unveiled Wednesday.
Freshman attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) was named the conference’s Rookie of the Year after leading the ODAC with 29 goals and 65 points. She ranks second in goals and fourth in points in NCAA Division III.
Morgan Crandall (Belfast, ME/Belfast), Samantha Howard (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) and Ariana Kleeman (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) all joined Weir on the first-team squad. Crandall, a senior midfielder that recently earned first-team All-South Region honors, was fourth on the squad with seven goals and nine assists. Howard, a junior attack, scored 11 goals and added an ODAC best 12 assists. Kleeman, a senior midfielder, had three goals and five assists in 21starts.
Senior defender Paige Bennett (Goshen, CT/Wamogo Regional) earned honorable mention honors after posting three assists and nine defensive saves in 21 starts.
Head mentor Enza Steele took home the ODAC Coach of the Year Award after guiding LC to an 18-3 overall record. The Hornets won the regular-season and tournament conference titles, and advanced into the NCAA Tournament.
