Hornet Men’s Soccer Loses 1-0 in OT to NC Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The North Carolina Wesleyan College men’s soccer team scored seven minutes into overtime Saturday to defeat Lynchburg College 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Alimamy Kargbo scored an unassisted goal at the 97:02 mark of the first overtime period to end the contest and send the Battling Bishops into the second round.

NCWC held a 14-8 edge in total shots and each team was awarded two corner kicks. Hornet keeper Marcus Jordan (Lynchburg, VA/Germantown) made three stops in net for LC.

The Bishops appeared to put the winning goal into the net off a header by Daniel Jones with three seconds remaining in regulation play, but an offside call erased the shot. Renate Corte recorded three saves in goal for NCWC. The Bishops advance to Sunday's second round game between the winner of the Virginia Wesleyan vs. Greensboro College game.

The Hornets end the season with a 14-5-2 record. LC won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship for the first time this season since the 1987 campaign.
