Lynchburg Field Hockey Wins 3-2 Double OT Stroke-off with EMU for ODAC Title
Erin Majerowicz Nets Game Winner

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – Freshman midfielder Erin Majerowicz (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) scored the game winner in a double overtime stroke-off Saturday as Lynchburg College outlasted Eastern Mennonite University 3-2 in the finals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Field Hockey Tournament. The Hornets won the stroke-off 3-2, capturing the program’s 10th ODAC title as goalie Becca Graham (Meadowbrook, PA/New Church) turned away the Royals’ fifth and final penalty stroke. The Hornets now receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament – the field will be announced on Sunday.

Senior Ariana Kleeman (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) opened the scoring from Samantha Howard (Fairfax Station, VA/W.T. Woodson) at 18:56 of the first half and LC took the 1-0 lead into intermission. Kristina Landis scored 14 minutes into the second half, but Hornet Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) knocked in a Morgan Crandall (Belfast, ME/Belfast) cross to put Lynchburg back ahead 2-1. The Royals forced overtime with just 2:20 remaining on the game clock, as Kristie Souder scored from Alyssa Derstine.

Neither team could find the back of the net in each of the two, 15 minute overtime periods, forcing the sudden-death stroke-off. Derstine and Crandall each netted their first penalty stroke for their respective squads, but neither team could connect on their second of five attempts. Lisa King and Weir each found the back of the cage on the third strokes, but Mennonite’s fourth attempt went wide of the cage. Majerowicz connected on her attempt and Graham’s save brought the title to Lynchburg (18-2).

Eastern Mennonite (13-6) held a 26-22 edge in shots and a 17-4 advantage in penalty corners. Katie Moyer made eight saves for the Royals, while Elizabeth Foskey (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) also made eight stops.
