Lynchburg Boasts Three ODAC Players of the Week

SALEM, VA – Three Lynchburg College student-athletes were honored Tuesday as Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Athletes of the Week for the week of October 31.Allie Weir

Freshman attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) was named the conference’s field hockey player of the week, leading Lynchburg to three wins with five goals and an assist. She scored the game-winner in overtime against Washington & Lee University Tuesday to give the Hornets the regular-season title and the top seed in the conference tournament. Weir scored twice each against Division II Catawba and Sweet Briar in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament.

 

 

 

Modou JobartehJunior forward Modou Jobarteh (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) earned the ODAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week Award. He scored twice early in the second half Wednesday to lift Lynchburg a 2-0 win over Washington & Lee University and give the Hornets the #2 seed in the ODAC Championship Tournament. The contest was scoreless at halftime, but Matthew Lombardo found Jobarteh at 56:47 to give LC a 1-0 lead. Jobarteh struck again just 26 seconds later from Josh Reed and the Hornets held on for the 2-0 win.

 

 

 

JCarrington Cardwellunior middle hitter Carrington Cardwell (Gladys, VA/Rustburg) was named the ODAC Volleyball Player of the Week. She led LC to a 4-0 week, extending the Hornet win streak to eight matches entering the ODAC Tournament. She posted 46 kills in 16 games played with a .356 hitting percentage. She had 13 kills in a three-set win over Sweet Briar Tuesday, 14 kills at Ferrum Thursday and 12 more against Mountain State Saturday. Cardwell also added 15 blocks and 15 digs on the week.
