Lynchburg Field Hockey Defeats Sweet Briar 9-0 in the ODAC Quarters

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated Sweet Briar College 9-0 on Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) quarterfinal match. It was the first contest ever played on the newly renovated turf of Shellenberger Field.

Laura Christianson (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood) posted a hat trick to lead the offensive explosion for Lynchburg. Morgan Crandall (Belfast, ME/Belfast) and Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) added two goals each, while Megan Kempel (Millington, MD/Queen Anne’s) and Rachel Sherman (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) each tacked on a goal. Melissa Seipel (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester), Paige Bennett (Goshen, CT/Wamogo Regional), Ariana Kleeman (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City), and Shannon Kennedy (Dumfires, VA/Forest Park) each tallied an assist.

The Hornets outshot Sweet Briar (2-13) 48-1 and enjoyed a 16-0 edge in penalty corners. Cat Cox recorded 18 saves for the Vixens, and Ann-Gordon Bennett added a defensive save.

Lynchburg (16-2) will host the ODAC Tournament semi-finals and finals on Friday and Saturday with times and match-ups to be determined.
